Exploring our relationship with the present. Accepting the challenge of being here.

It is sometimes difficult to accept the reality of the present moment. We feel uncomfortable. We want to run away or escape. So, we distract ourselves, tell ourselves stories, find ways to not be here…
In doing so, we miss the chance to consciously experience the richness and dynamism of all that surrounds us – and moves through us ; to be fully alive in the reality of the here and now, even when it is challenging and our hearts beat fast.

This workshop explores ways to find greater ease in daily life by embracing the fact that we cannot be anywhere else, and that nothing is fixed, and everything is in a constant state of change.

Life is movement, and as human beings we are constantly in motion – be it visible or not. Our moving body is equally the compass that facilitates our experiencing of life and our ability to choose and orientate ourselves consciously, creatively and autonomously in this world.

Gravity: when we soften down into our body – the sensations of grounding, the possibility of coming to rest, invited by the Earth’s gravity and the very solidity of our physical matter.

When we can tune into our breathing, discover the spaces of our internal landscape. When we can gently open to the world around us, perhaps we can start to welcome and explore more fully our unique way of experiencing and responding to each passing moment.

We don’t need to try to be better, but rather open to how many different ways to move
– physically, emotionally, mentally – are available to us.

In so doing, we can expand our choices, discover new pathways, and touch, perhaps, a sense of calm at the heart of ourselves where movement is unfettered and we can allow everything to be.

Let’s explore the possibility of a more compassionate relationship to ourselves and find a greater ease with the world. Let’s cultivate a simpler way of being in order to feel fully every step of our journey, and savour the richness of each moment. Embodied, mobile, alert:our creativity finds its free, unhindered expression. We taste the delight of the now, and we affirm our presence – precious and undeniable.

There is joy in simply being here and dancing with what is.

Peter Wilberforce is a certified 5Rhythms teacher. He leads workshops and seminars throughout France and Europe. He incorporates several physical and vocal practices into his work—the Feldenkrais Method, Chloë Goodchild’s The Naked Voice, and the Alexander Technique. He also offers work on liberating the voice through mindful body movement. He is guided by the conviction that optimal, embodied learning takes place in spaces of calm and compassionate attention. This approach calls for a spirit of exploration and encourages participants to embrace all their sensations, as well as an openness to play.
