5Rhythms is a dynamic movement method that awakens creativity, connection and a sense of community through connection to the body and our physical sensations.  Gabrielle Roth was an American dancer, musician and theatre director who created it in the 1970s and continued to develop it until her death in 2012.

Her basic idea was that human beings are capable of the most wonderful movements and can find unity between their desires, emotions, thoughts and movements – if they allow themselves to. Gabrielle said that the biggest obstacle to our freedom is ourselves. Her words: “Each of us comes into the world 100 percent intuitive; it’s just a matter of reclaiming your birthright. To do that you need to get out of your own way, to strip away the things that are blocking, distracting, diffusing, suppressing, and depressing the natural dance of your intuition.”

In reclaiming our intuitive freedom of movement, we encounter five distinctive patterns. Learning about these through movement helps us to live our freedom. These are what Gabrielle called rhythms. So the five rhythms are not something we learn, but are gateways through which we find our intuitive freedom.

The Flowing rhythm encourages you to “get into the music”, inviting you to fluid and continuous movement. Flowing is a dance of earth and feminine energies, an opportunity to experience and embody receptivity in our bodies.

Staccato is the outward expression of our inner energy, with clear beginnings and endings. Clean movements, precise expression. Staccato is a display of masculine energy, of fire.

The rhythm of Chaos has no structure, it calls for release, for freedom. We surrender our bodies to the music, the rhythm, the pulsation. We dissolve in creative freedom.

Lyrical is light, intuitive, spacious. It gives space to explore repetitive movements and through them to enter a state of trance.

Finally, the rhythm of Stillness is generally slowing down, emptying out. The body finds its perfect stillness in movement, in breath, in the simplicity of existence.

“Knowledge is only rumor until it lives in the bones.” ― the Asaro Tribe (Papua New Guinea)

I teach dance to help people connect to their own power.

I believe that we all have the capacity to become fully embodied souls, and fully inspirited bodies. Body and soul are in union within us and dance is a powerful tool to bring these aspects of our existence closer together. The only thing we need to do is to move and be open to whatever is unfolding through the movement.

My life changed fundamentally since I started dancing and my desire is to bring this transformation to everybody who needs it.

I was born in 1974 in Budapest, Hungary. I started leading groups and using non-formal teaching methods in the early ’90s. I have degrees in pedagogy, philosophy and economics, I worked as a high school teacher, research project manager, business consultant, and trainer. I received accreditation to teach the 5Rhythms from Gabrielle Roth in 2011. Since that time I’m offering weekly classes in Budapest, workshops in several different cities in Hungary, Serbia, Romania and Austria, and I offer longer retreats as well.

Frameworks of groups

Péter Fejér’s article The framework of group work, especially in the case of spiritual work, is perhaps more important than the content of the group process itself. There is a lot of talk these days about the importance of learning to protect our boundaries, and yet I find that when it comes to spiritual group…
